What is a physiatrist? Minimize

A physiatrist is a physician specializing in the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of spine and musculoskeletal disorders, induding sports medicine, work injurjes or degenerative conditions such as low back pain. An aggressive non-surgical approach is utilized, with emphasis on comprehensive management to decrease pain and increase function. This includes guiding other rehabilitation professionals such as physical therapists to provide the rnost effective patient care. A physiatrist is specially trained in performing nerve conduction studies and electromyography (EMG) disorders of the muscles and nerves. Having a fellowship trained physician such as Dr. Cohen on staff is part of OSM's team-oriented approach to providing exceptional, state-of-the-art patient care for spine and musculoskeletal disorders.

Isaac Cohen, MD

Dr. Cohen joined OSM in 2001. He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and subspecialty boarded in Pain Medicine and Electro Diagnostic Medicine. Dr. Cohen’s interests include aggressive non-surgical treatment of spinal and musculoskeletal disorders.  He also performs minimally invasive procedures to diagnose painful spinal conditions and facilitates participation in exercise-based physical therapy.
